period futures

My Role: Co-founder, Director of Health

In March 2020, Jasmine Burton, Katie Kirsch and I embarked on exploring menstrual health innovation in our own communities and globally. We were all passionate about women’s empowerment and the hygiene/sanitation space, and all have backgrounds in product design and design thinking that we wanted to apply to this problem area.

On Menstrual Health Day, (5/28/20) we launched Period Futures, an exploration of the potential futures of periods and period innovation. We started with launching 9 unique provocations that explore concepts for speculative design for improving the period-having experience and are launching more each quarter. We then launched Period Futurists, a publication highlighting the work of BIPOC menstrual health innovators. Read more here.

Our work was highlighted in Gentry Magazine and Ms. Magazine.

Period Futures is now embedded within Wish for Wash, a nonprofit focused on innovation in the hygiene and sanitation space. I serve as the co-founder of Period Futures and a Human-Centered Design Advisor as part of their technical adivsory board.
